Most of us know we should have our important information organized. We intend to get to it someday. But someday has a way of turning into next month, next year, or "I'll deal with it when life slows down."
I'm no different. My husband and I prepared our wills more than 30 years ago because, as a dual-military couple, it was required. Along with the wills, we have things like our DD-214s and information about veterans' benefits. Most people don't put this off because they don't care. They put it off because it requires thinking about difficult possibilities, making countless small decisions, and figuring out where to begin. It's much easier to close the file drawer and promise yourself you'll come back to it later.
