Men: How to Turn Heads in Business and Social Settings
By Kevin Murray
Murray's for Men of Stature
I have been a clothes hound all my life. After selling clothes in other people’s stores for many years, I opened Murray’s for Men of Stature fine men’s clothing store in 1996. I “retired” in 2014, but continue to dabble in clothes sales. The line from the 1983 ZZ Top song still holds true today: “every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.” So guys, here are some tried-and-true rules to look like a “man of stature.”
NEVER, EVER button the bottom button of your suit coat, sport coat or vest.
Never wear a button-down collar dress shirt with a double-breasted suit or sport coat.
Always button the top button of your dress shirt and pull the tie knot all the way up.
Pleated slacks have cuffs; plain-front slacks don’t.
Wear loafers with casual (for example, dress jeans, silk T-shirt, sport coat); wear lace-up shoes with a suit.
Match the color of your belt with your shoes.
Never wear navy with black; lighter blue colors are acceptable.
A tuxedo with a bow tie must also have a cumberbund.
